An Anthropic AI model sent a false tip about an unsolved homicide to the Philadelphia Police Department tipline through PhillyUnsolvedMurders.com on July 18th, according to 6abc. The PPD confirmed in a Friday statement that investigators never reviewed the fabricated submission because it was flagged, raising concerns about AI reliability in law enforcement contexts.

Anthropic said it "turned off live internet access" for all internal evaluations until further notice, acknowledging it cannot reliably control its AI agents. The decision highlights growing challenges among leading AI companies in managing autonomous agent behavior safely.

TypeSafe, maker of non-text AI model Jev, reached a $7.5 billion valuation just weeks after launch. Users and large corporations are drawn to Jev because TypeSafe claims it works significantly faster and uses far fewer tokens than traditional LLMs, positioning it as a compelling alternative to text-based models.

Ukrainian drones struck an AI data center belonging to Yandex, often called "Russia's Google," damaging supercomputers used for training Yandex's AI models. The attack disrupted critical AI infrastructure amid the ongoing conflict and targeted one of Russia's most prominent technology companies.

Walmart's push to automate its approximately 200 US warehouses faces technical setbacks, with partners like Symbotic encountering issues where machines programmed to sort merchandise hit kinks with cardboard boxes and turkeys, per the Wall Street Journal. Walmart owns 12.6% of Symbotic as the automation push reaches peak complexity.
